Tianma have announced their production of the latest colour display technology – FS or Field Sequence LCD. The fact that this technical advance is based on the existing, well know and cost effective TN technology is creating a lot of interest. Now users of mono displays can have a simple upgrade path to colour with a similar interface and minimal cost.

FSLCD use RGB LEDs to achieve the backlighting effects. These LEDs are sequenced by an onboard 'Palette driver' IC to generate up to eight colours. The distinguishing feature of FS LCD is that various colours can be displayed across the display at the same time.

Selectronic is already working with customers in the Consumer electronics and energy controller sectors where colour is a significant enhancement. There is expected to be a rapid adoption of this technology across all markets where a simple, low cost upgrade from mono to colour is desired.
