The selection and layout of keymats
may start off as being seen as a very straightforward process but
this is one product area where the added value of the finished
product can be enhanced or reduced . In so many market sectors the
feel and the operation of the keys determine the perceived QA of
the product. This aspect should not be underestimated as a
primary source of user satisfaction - if the keys feel right, the
product gains credibility.
Design and feel are critical and
you need to work with a supply partner who really understands the
technology and the application then to bring the elements together
to add that "key" difference.
The integration of the mat in to
the ergonomics of the product and optimising how it is then
produced so the device has built in ruggedness and is rattle free
are again areas of design where the early involvement of
Selectronic has made the difference in some many projects. With
the ability to tap into skilled tooling and rapid prototype
realisation the whole concept can be lifted from the drawing and
turned in to a first off sample in a matter of 3-4 weeks.
No two keypads are the same, no
two applications call for the same criteria and by optimising the
keypad the whole look can be defined. With technology from plastic
keytree type product, plastic topped, pc film, integrated
polydomes and of course the standard silicone domed keypad
selection is complete but not always straight forward which is
where talking to Selectronic can make the difference.
Experience has shown that with the
level of design involvement for many projects by incorporating the
keypad into the complete front bezel an option of a totally
integrated solution becomes a cost effective and secure option .
Here again with manufacturing process to support total integration
a one-piece solution can be delivered.
